I would have sided with the common people of Spain which meant I would have strongly supported the Republic. Contrary to what the person above me said about Republicans supporting the Republic, Republicans today, at least all those who support GWB, would have no doubt stood strongly behind Franco. I can just see Franco and Bush locked step together, arm in arm supporting fascism.

Blaming the divisions of the Republican flow for its failure isn't passable. those have been de facto in trouble-free terms early interior the Republic's war attempt, via fact the war better the Communist (Soviet subsidized) faction grew to become the dominant establishing stress interior the Republic. Unsurprisingly the centralised business enterprise under the Communists grew to become into benefitial; the preliminary tide of the insurrection grew to become into stemmed & for a time the Republic grew to become into even able to offensive action. whether the Republic, with physically powerful & centred inner business enterprise, nonetheless failed interior the face of the Francoist rebels, so finally inner branch can't clarify the militia failure of the Republic. far greater urgent grew to become into the political backdrop the Republic confronted. The western democracies disassociated them from the flow even with the keenness that many with Blum's government. had to do in any different case; Britain grew to become into nigh on a tacit supporter of the insurrection. Neither would even sell hands to the Republic, which held Spain's perplexing distant places money reserves & consequently could properly arise with the money for such. The Soviet Union grew to become into prepared to help yet grew to become into likewise unwilling to make Spain an "open" proxy war; this left the way open for the ultimate Wing authoritaran regimes of Germany & Italy to help the insurrection shamelessly & with significant ingredients in fabric, understanding and, to a greater constrained quantity, manpower. The insurrection military did deliver with then the point of tactical or operational high quality for which the army of North Africa grew to become into respected; something the Republic conspicuously in no way matched, officers & adult men stationed in Spain have been generally concept-approximately (and have been) sorry shadows of those in African stations. whether the Repubic would have conquer this if it were in a position you bought hands & distant places understanding on a large scale; they have been improving the tactical & operational skills & had get right of entry to to a significant swimming pools of manpower.

Neither had sane political views. So what if Hitler and Mussolini sent
Franco aid? Stalin sent aid to the Republicans. Both sides were full of extremists, and both committed horrible attrocities, I probably would have just left the country because neither side was very appealing, or worth fighting for.

Neither. Just like Bush should let the Iraqi Shiites and Iraqi Sunnis fight it out until there is a victor in their civil war. US didn't get involved in the Spanish civil war and they should not be involved in today's Iraq civil war.

Of course I would be in the POUM.
Most Americans now as they were then would assist in any effort to quash a largely anarchist revolution. Thus, support Franco (as US Corporations did).
