I have an RCA 256 mb usb flash drive/mp3 player. Everytime i try to connect it to my computer and access files from it. I receive the error "please insert disk into drive e" (drive is is the letter of the flash drive) The drive will does not work as a music player either. I have tried reinstalling the drivers but that did nothing. What could be causeing this error? Could this be caused by removing the dirve without clicking on the safe to remove hardware? Can anyone direct me to a FREE utility that may be able to fix this error and recover my files. Is there any chance of my being able to recover my files. I would like to be able to fix this error without formating my drive if there is anyway possible. i have alot of important files on there that i do not want to lose. I am hoping that this is not a problem with the flash drive itself. I have only had it a few months

The best software i can come up with is Data Doctor Recovery Removable Media. But you gotta pay license for it. No free utility available on web. I'm looking for one too, FREE one i mean. Will let you know if i find it. And yes, removing without properly ejecting it can cause the drive to crash. You can test you luck, sometimes it's okay if you pull it off, but just when you forget to back up, stuff like this happens

even as replaced into the only top time you bumped off the flash pressure or rebooted your workstation? If the mistakes persists after rebooting and reinserting the flash pressure, you'll have corrupted it. i might want to examine the seller's web site to work out in the adventure that they have got any utilities for repairing it.

have you tried using the flash drive with a different computer to see if it's just your system? give that a try.. if it works with the other one, find out what driver you might be missing.
