The supervisor is given temporary security access to create an email distribution list and emails me yesterday to ask if I would send him the last 4digits of SSN. I did not reply b/c I was going to talk to him directly today. When I got to work, he said dont worry about the email b/c he called HR this morning and they gave it to him over the phone.

If your HR department provided this information, what would stop them from releasing other confidential information? I think I would ask your HR dept. what was the reasoning for giving this information out? Most places issue you an employee number; why couldn't they use that?

If I were you I'd be asking a lot of questions....
