You'd need 1,000,000 1 cm Cubes to fill up 1 cubic meter. A 1 meter cube would be 100 cm x 100 cm x 100 cm. Or 1,000,000 cubic centimeters.

The first answer that comes to mind is 100, because 100 1cm cubes put on top of each other do make an object of 1 meter in height, but they do not form a cube. As a few other people said, you have to cube that (100x100x100), which will give you 1,000,000 (million) cubes.

Yes, the answer is 100x100x100 = 1,000,000.
I would say, you should have a better understanding if you can imagine it in pictures. If you can not, try draw them out maybe in a scale, eg 50cmX50cmX50cm in a 1mx1mx1m cube. Then you'll need 2x2x2cubes = 8cubes.
This way after several exercise, it is in your mind or maybe you can also self create a formula if you are the type to memorize formula.

1m = 100 cm
A cube 1m on each edge = 100cm x 100cm x 100cm
= 1,000,000 (one million)
