um DNA is what holds your genetic makeup and chromosomes are what you have inside you to make your children with so yes. becuase you have 23 and your mate has 23 and when you combine each others you give them to your child and they would have 46.

DNA consists of amino acids. Amino acids are a simple form of organic chemicals that can be found on many planets. It seems that in some circumstances amino acids combine to form more complex molecules and some of them are able to reproduce. This was probably the origin of DNA.

Chromosomes are by definition composed of chromatin. There are also proteins (histones), and by weight there is probably more protein than DNA, but DNA is the "business" portion of the molecule...

There's not much else in chromosomes, -- they're 100% DNA.
Some people use "chromosome" to also include the DNA-bound proteins which serve to package and manage the DNA.
You might be thinking of chromatin.
