80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

I made an essay about the meaning of life.. Hope you all like it..

What is the meaning of life?.. As I was sitting on my desk, trying to accumulate all the knowledge I have for me to be able to give justice to this question, i thought, what defenition of life do I know?.. If I would refer to the dictionary, then life is the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally. But I think there's more to life than just scientific whatsoever. I think life is far beyond, what science can explain.

In my opinion, my life is very important.. how important?.. well, life is like role-playing.. Its like, an epic movie, without rehearsals and I am the center hero. Without me, there will be no great achievements, no impressive battles, no dramatic encounters.. without me, there wouldn't be a story at all.. THATS how important I am.

God gave me this role to play. God also gave me free will and its up to me, how I would like to portray my role. I can make my role more attractive. I can tell the truth. I can taste. I can smell. I can feel pain. I can't make all things happen. I can't please everybody. I can do anything that I want in this world.

But the best part of my role is that I can love. I can do great things. I can help those in need. I can do many good deeds in this small place that we live in. I will value peoples lives. I can even save lives if my knowledge permits me to. and lastly, I have strong faith in God.

And if I attain these celebrated things, I will be awarded something that no amount of money could buy. The honor of eternity beside God.

But only hero's are awarded this enchanted experience. So, be the hero in your own epic story.

am i speaking to buddha himself? just kidding anyways, this is a question i have been thinking abt. the meaning of your life is what u read into it. and what is it that u read ? it is what you do with ur life. what are ur ailms for ur life? the aims which u will even die for? well, that is the meaning of ur life. it may be different with other people. to be free to dowhat we want, yet remaining under restraint (which is for the good of other lives), to lose, jst to make ur next win even sweeter, to seek fulfilment even in the mundane facts of life like marriage, family, children etc, , at the same time to know that we have been placed here by someone who has the power to take us back anytime ; all the while to strive towards ur goals in life so that at the end u can say," whoa, what a ride"- this, according to me, is the meaning of life. i dont know how much others can agree to this viewpoint. still, this is what i feel

The question is the meaning. Without the question there is no meaning. Life is the question.

Smile and life will smile back.

Ah, yes, the eager young intellectual out to battle the demons of smug fuzzy-headedness here on the net. Well, Homey don't play that. We aren't going to argue with you, because we already know what arguments can and cannot be knocked down. As Kant pointed out quite a while back now, no metaphysical axiom can be proven to be necessary. Meaning, by its very nature, implies a metaphysical and teleological structure that is rooted in assumptions beyond mere matter. That is to say, you will be able to very easily poke holes in our presentation of the meaning of life, by definition. It wouldn't be the meaning of life if it were logically unassailable.

The only unassailable arguments these days are materialism and pure philosophical agnosticism. If you are dealing with someone who believes that the material world exists, you can win every argument by having the position that all that exists are atoms and molecules bouncing randomly around and that there is no moral or philosophical principle that can be proven to be true, or even to have any meaning. Life is completely pointless on a philosophical level, but if you want to continue filling your belly just for the sheer bloody- mindedness of it, Darwin pointed out the basic game plan and Ayn Rand filled in the egotistical details. Have at it.

If you have someone who is more clever and knows to argue that the material world may not exist, then there are not only no moral or philosophical principles that can be proven to exist, but indeed, there are no scientific principles that can be proven to exist either. You have sunken into solipsism, which of course can't be proven either, leaving you with no provable statements whatsoever. As before of course, if you wish to continue filling your non-existent belly with insubstantial morsels, there are plenty of other non-existent people who will apparently play that game with what we will for argument's sake call you, so jolly good luck, if there were such a thing.

I feel you dont find the meaning of Life itself. But you find the meaning behind your OWN LIFE. The meaning is what you make it.

The meaning of life is to give your life meaning. That's it. Without that, your life is meaningless. With it, everything you do has a purpose.

Unconditional love, is the meaning of life. The purpose of life is to awaken to unity with God in unconditional love within the heart. Your supreme duty is to express that love to the best of your ability.

Each one must find out the meaning for himself. If you seek, then you will surely find.

Every religion and school has its own answer. But in essence, all of them teach the same basic truths. The Book of Genesis provides us with clues. The Gospels clarify and make plain. We should listen to Jesus. He tells it like it is in his own words.
