Direct sun rays hit you straight on, like a bus. Indirect (one word) rays bounce off you, like you bouncing off a bus. Which do you think?

Direct. Consider that the sun subtends about 1/2º of arc and that it's over a million km across. Anything that reflects sunlight will be smaller, either in area, or in angle. So even if it's perfect reflector, you'd guess less sun from a reflection.

Since most objects are are not specular, or mirror-like, the light scatters in all directions after the reflection, thereby further reducing the amount of sunlight that would hit you.

However, if you're in the middle of the desert, the indirect sunlight from ALL your surroundings is probably enough to cook you pretty well.

it is hotter at noon when the sun is directly overhead than in the afternoon when sunlight is at an angle so direct sun rays are stronger

Don't you mean indirect?

Direct is stronger. Just like a direct hit (if you'll pardon the expression) from a bullet is more forceful than an indirect hit from a bullet.

Now let's think about this.

When the sun shines directly on you, is it stronger or weaker than when you are in the shade?

Shade = indirect sunlight

Direct, because even the best mirrors only reflect 99.8% of the light hitting them, and other materials nowhere near that.

Direct sunray is harmful, avoid it at anycost. Indirect, not sure what you mean, but if its not direct, you might be safe.
