I am having a problem with the wipers on my Montana. They are only working on the high setting. They will not work on the low or intermittant settings. Any ideas why this would happen? I assume the fuse wouldn't be an issue because they wouldn't work at all? the switch does not "feel" faulty. They also will not go down when turned off. In their natural rest position, they either stay at the bottom of the windshield or in the full up position. Any ideas???

if it helps any this situation happened after the wipers were left on after the vehicle was shut off and we had some ice freeze them to the windsheild. The next day when the wife turned the van on and the wipers were frozen, well that caused the issue.

There is a wiper delay ,relay / switch system .Although on many cars it is a module / box. If yours has one then likly that is the problem get a new wiper delay module to fix it . It likly burnt out as the power was on yet the wipers were stuck so the delay control unit burnt out. It is fairly common for this to happen.

I agree, 1st check to see if it is still under warranty 3/36. If not, sounds like you have 2 problems, the wiper module and the wiper "park arm". Both very common. I get alot of these trucks in our shop, the wipers staying in the up position or not parking is 95% always the park arm either misadjusted or bad, note, there is a special procedure for properly "clocking" them . Its rare to see a bad wiper switch on a Montana van. But without haveing it properly tested, you wont know for sure. note- A certified tech gets paid for his acurate diagnosis, the person who said get a free one, you will get a better job is so wrong. Auto Tech's, ( good ones who actually know what they are doing and who are well trained) get paid to make sure its done right the 1st time. Remember, you normally get in life what you paid for, sometimes free isnt always the best. Good tech's have spent thousands of dollars on tools and equipment, not to mention hundreds of hours of training, which they usually take durning the time they are off work, after hours. They want the knowledge to be good, and deserve the proper pay as well. Good luck

All GM products have what is called a wiper module that is actually part of the motor but can be replaced without replacing the motor. This is a common problem with the trucks. You have the same symptoms but doesn't make sense that this would have gone bad in the situation that your describing. It would be a cheap place to start though

There is a parking arm on the pass side under hood near the battery. Its usually covered with a plastic black cover. That will explain why they dont park correctly. As far as working in high only, it sounds like a bad wiper contol module. The module may also cause incorrect parking. I would definently have it checked proffesionally.

Could be the body control module, or even the wiper motor assembly.

I'm betting your wiper arms them selves are just loose, need to be tightened up

Most likey it is in the wiper motor itself.

My suggestion is that since it is a 2005, I would take it back to the dealer and try to have it taken care of under warranty. If you bought an extended warranty, it should be covered under this as well.

Best bet would be the switch. I would take it to a shop that doesn't charge diagnostic fees. THey can help alot more.
