Pluto was the smalest planet the Solar System.
Until June 2002, Quaoar is the smallest known planet orbits the Sun.

Quaoar is a Trans-Neptunian object orbiting the Sun in the Kuiper belt. It was discovered on 4 June 2002 by astronomers Chad Trujillo and Michael Brown at the California Institute of Technology from images acquired at the Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory.

A Dwarf Planet it is still a Planet though!!

Pluto used to be considered the smallest planet but as of 8/24/06 it was reclassified as a dwarf planet. Astronomers had found other objects bigger than Pluto out beyond its orbit in the Kuiper Belt. So rather than make them all planets they voted to call them dwarf planets (not stars) and included Pluto. The smallest planet is now Mercury at about 1500 miles in diameter, compared to Earth's 8500 mile and the Moon's 1000 mile diameters.

The Planet most farthest which is Pluto is considered the smallest planet... but in reality it could be so far that it is actually twice the size of the sun and is the biggest planet, Oh and by the way, i dont think Pluto is a planet anymore...

Pluto is now recommended as a ''Dwarf Planet.'' Although we only get tought about the 9 main planets, there are 2 other dwarf planets, these are called: Ceres, Pluto and Eris.

Go on wikipedia and type in ''Dwarf Planets'' for further info.

Hope this helps.

It WAS Pluto but it was so small that it got demoted. I think Mercury is now considered the smallest planet.

it WAS pluto before it was pushed back from "Planet" status to "Dwarf Star" status. The smallest PLANET is most possibly Mercury as of recently.

I'm not sure but I think astronomers say that Pluto is a rogue asteroid (oddly enough) from the Kuiper Belt, with its obscure orbit? Please correct me if I am wrong.
