Look, If you think that your better than another AFI fan because you've been a fan since the early 90s, then you're sorely mistaken. Just because someone has became a fan since "Miss Murder" doesn't make then any less a fan. They count as fans because they like their music. Yes I know some of you are devoted followers, and dedicate your lives to them for YEARS now, I'M ONE OF THEM!!! I still embrace new fans. I HATE when I go to beards and I see new fans get attacked by older ones, and when ppl say "I hate it when someone calls themselves an AFI fan and they only heard "Miss Murder" SO WHAT! Most newer fans are going back and listening to the old stuff, and falling in love with it. AFI appreciates ALL their fans whether they are in the DF or not. They also appreciate the old fans for being there, and embrace the new ones. Yes, I'm with you, If I hear "OMG I LURVE AFI, DAVEY AND JADE ARE SOOO HOT" I will kick something, you all know that fan girls aren't real fans....

but not all new fans are poseurs. I've been a fan since I was 16, and I'm 25 now. Don't let the new fans be scared to love AFI...its not fair to them or the band. This isn't for all you, its for all the ignorant people who aren't happy for their success...what band doesn't want to be loved and followed by millions? They didn't sell out, they only evolved their music, and you KNOW that AFI is all about changing up the music....so chill.

Well what do you think?

Bud B, I still think your a poseur, you copyed that from someone else, I am NOT convinced, I read your sad excuse of an apology. From the things you said, NO ONE can change their mind that quick.

Hey hey now. You're sounding like a hypocrite.

Your point was to embrace every fan old or new, yet you're attacking Bud B and saying that you still think he's a poseur. WTF? Forgive. He admitted and took responsibility for his actions.

Oh, and it's not that uncommon when you find people saying the same things because that's what we do. If I find a great quote or a point, (like from Bella Mars, EBHC), I'd say it too. That's why you'd find that most AFI fans here talk alike with similar points.

It's got something to do with protectiveness AND respect. If new fans (yeah, mostly them) act all immature about things (fan-girlism, too excited "OMG AFI soooo rules the world!!") then other people would have no respect for them AND the band, because they would think that all AFI's fans are poseur, teenyboppers. And noone wants that.

That's why new fans get told off, it's all for a good cause. But I"m not talking about ALL new fans, if you carry yourself well, then you'll be fine. That's all you have to do. Carry yourself well, be knowledgeable about AFI, be mature and don't be a fan-girl. That's it.

Ok.....lets see here. I agree, but slightly disagree. I really don't like the fan girls and poseurs destroying everything the band stands for. Because AFI doesn't exist to look good, or be liked because everyone else does. It depends on who you run into. I do praise the new fans going back to the older music and getting into it. & yeah it doesn't matter if your in DF or not to be a diehard fan. The band said so themselves. I know that the newer fans sometimes get intimidated by what the older ones say to you at shows and message boards etc...but its just to make sure that they aren't poseurs. AFI fans aren't like fans from other bands, they are protective, and don't want their reputation ruined. Because before all this mainstream success they were a very well-respected hardcore punk band. I'm not gonna sit there and brag about how long I've been a fan, and think I'm better than you I won't. As long as you carry yourself well, and be yourself, then no one will bother you. Most of the time the older fans just wanna school on AFI's history and music and such. I personally embrace all fans, as long as they prove that they like the music and aren't poseurs and fan girls.

You're sounding like how I used to. You can't rant about something this broad of a subject, because people have different personalities. and different views. I know you are asking for an agreement or disagreement. As far as older fans think they are better than the new ones. Some do, some don't. Some older AFI fans have stopped listening to AFI BECAUSE of mainstream success. I had a bad experience with an older fan (I'm a newer one), All I asked was how they were live, and my a** got an earful from him. I was really scared, and thought that ALL older AFI fans were like that so I rebelled, and went on a rampage and trashed everything associated with AFI. Bella Mars and Ms Fall had to give me speeches to show how wrong I was.

I did what you are doing, ranting on a broad subject. You gotta understand things from everyon's viewpoint.

New fans wanna be accepted, because they heard an AFI song on the radio and bought the cd, and went on a messageboard to see if anyone else is interested in that same band, but instead they get called poseurs and fan girls. Most new fans don't know that AFI have been around for over a decade, and think that STS and DU are their only albums. Yes some do get intimidated by older ones, and don't wanna go on messageboards, shows, or anything of that sort. Sometimes the older fans just want you to PROVE that you like their music, and prove that you don't like them based on their looks, or because they are the "in" thing. The worst thing you can call AFI is emo.

Older fans, just want the newer fans to appreciate AFI's history, that they've been around for so long, and that there's more to their music than...well the music. Its hard for them sometimes. I mean all of a sudden you favorite band goes from local heroes, to cult status, then mainstream. All of a sudden all these new people are into them. All of a sudden boards are flooded with "Davey and Jade are soooo HOT" What about Adam and Hunter? Do they know about Marc, Geoff, and Vick? Why is everyone asking if Davey is gay? Why are these people going around and calling others poseurs because they didn't know AFI had two albums? When they actually released around 24 LPs and EPs.Why are they being compared to Panic! at the Disco? If you talk to some of these older fans, they will tell you this.

They don't like that their band, that they followed for over 10+ years are being subjected to fangirlism and poseurs. That they are slowly losing credibility, after all these years AFI has worked, blood, sweat, and tears, for what? a number 1 spot on TRL, and being dismissed as some emo act, and getting snubbed at the grammys? Wtf is emo anyways??? Not that crap that MTV says emo is. Panic at the Disco and Fall Out Boy, two bands that sound like one, got record deals over night, and will fade away in a few years.

I've taken EBHC, Bella Mars, and Ms Fall's advice and done some research. I've talked to older fans, and new ones, and thats what they told me. I agree.

Basicall Older fans want AFI respected, Newer fans, just have to prove that they are for real and not scensters, poseurs, or fangirls.

AFI is a well-protected band, by ALL real fans, and the band members themselves really appreciate that they are respected like that....so maybe you should do some research...

I agree 100% with you! I am a big fan of AFI! I personally think that Sing The Sorrow was their best album (mainly cuz the hidden poem at the end is really great and it makes me sad, but in a good way!), but i havent really listened to their other stuff that much so i cant really say... although i agree with you! When you like a band it shouldnt matter how long you've been a fan! If you like someones music thats all that matters!

I'm one of their newer fans, Miss Murder got me hooked.
i know how people are, the older fans just don't want to be replaced by newer fans(that's what i think), but they have to understand that they have to get along, because I'm sticking around. I've been listening to their older music and reading about AFI and stuff, i think their music is amazing, and powerful, it's one of a kind. i see all these comments, tons of paragraphs long(that agrees with you or disagrees), but I'm not going to wast all your time. so to sum it up i agree with you, but i do think Davey is hot, and has a wonderful voice, and i don't care if people don't think I'm a true fan by saying that he is hot, but I am a true fan, and if people don't like it, deal with it. also it is amazing that you still follow AFI since you were 16, I'm only 14, i missed out on some amazing years of AFI, because I was just getting to understand music.

i couldn't agree more with you. i've been a fan since 99 and no one really knew of them around here and what i could get was very limited so i didnt know alot but they were there. im not going to say i know everything thats just ignorant. and especially when sing the sorrow came out i dont know why but everyone treated me as a "new fan" which shouldnt be a big diffrence at all. its not like i was going around just talking about the sheer beauty of the band i was talking about the music and that's what matters the most. what you have said is valid and i think it goes without saying anyone thats subjecting people to that are just as less of a fan than the people praising afi for being sexy they are doing the same general thing just parading their time length of knowing the band.

fun little factiod i like to throw out there. my first warped tour i saw afi at. i was fairly younger to the crowd but i talked to whomever was talking about afi we got to talking about music and personal stuff of the band it was great and then we got to talking about our afi tattoos we had and.i was voted the most hardcore fan and this was out of like 50 fans old and new i guess it all depends on who you run itno.

I think you should chill.

It's got to do more with protectiveness. Obviously, noone wants their favorite band to be known as a band who's fans are poseurs.

Kids these days have to learn that the world isn't full of nice angelic people. Most of the time anyway, the older fans are trying to help the new fans settle in and be mature about liking the band. Sure, they get told off but its all for the good.

I dont imagine he attracts homosexuals. definite there are probly followers of his who're gay, yet there are followers of a lot of people who're gay. yet the following is the answer to you very last question: maximum individuals of his followers now are somewhat the striaght teenage females like me ( probably reason we anticipate of hes eye-catching :D) and then there are alot of adults who've loved him because he first actual got here out. lots of the adult adult males are into rappers lately, yet there are nevertheless also alot of adult adult males obtainable who love him and they are immediately So it particularly varies. Michael's fanbase is everywhere around the globe. So definite there'll be gay followers, yet he would not unavoidably entice them. they clone of him. yet

People go overboard about how long they've been so-and-so's fan.
Does it really matter?
No.
The music is what matters.
