Great acting in that movie. I can quote many parts of that movie, which is kind a 2 part movie: 1) Boot camp troubles (with the great R. Lee Irmay, who says "Boy, what is your major malfunction") and 2) the Vietnam war
This is the movie where the quote "Me love you long time" comes from

It's a Stanley Kubrick film, the first half of which follows Matthew Modine's character through basic training. There is very little dialogue in this section except the profanity laced tirades of the drill played by a real marine drill seargant. Slowly he trains normal boys to become robot like killers before sending them to Vietnam with tragic consequences. The last half of the movie focuses on soldiers having to make non-robot like choices in the midst of war despite their training. It's a mesmerizing film.

Vietnam. It's about the transformation of average American boys into killing machines. It can be hard to watch at some parts of the film.

It's about the Vietnam war. About half of it takes place in a basic training setting, and the other half takes place in Vietnam.
It is great.

My dad, who was a Vietnam war veteran, said that it was the most accurate portrayal of what the war was like (for him).
It's probably my favorite war movie.

No. It is just another anti-everything movie that is periodically vomited from the ultra-left bowels of the film industry.
