A serpent is a snake, any snake. I would guess that the most commonly kept "pet" serpent would be some kind of boa. You would need to check out a reptile care site or book for directions on keeping whatever kind of snake you are needing info about.

Hi Brittany,

A serpent is any kind of snake

The most commonly kept are rat snakes, these snakes not only keep away rodents that contribute to outbreaks of diseases they also keep away venomus snakes.

One who owns a snake needs a tank with a good tight lid so he cannot get out.

They need leather gloves thick ones because snakes bite hard when they are scared.

Also have a pillowcase with no holes in it to use for when you clean his cage. Any hloes and he will get out.

Hope this helps!

A serpant is a snake, but I couldn't guess which one is the most commonly kept. That would actually be rather hard to determine. I have a ball and burmese python and a red tailed boa at this time.
