I was 19 when I had my daughter... I went to all kinds of classes and read everything I could about pregnancy....
My informed decision was to have natural labor... Trust me, I ended up screaming for drugs half way through because I was induced (When the doctors break your water and give you medication to start labor). Even though it was painful and kind of embarassing ( I was swearing at my whole family)... I think it was the best experience of my life. This might sound kind of weird but I missed the feeling of having her inside of me, feeling her come out and leave my body was a good transition. I was able to hold her right away... And I got a sandwich... That was the icing on the cake... lol. Some hospitals offer epidurals. That is a spinal injection that numbs the lower half of your body. It sounds weird but I hear it makes things nice.
My best friend on the other hand, opted to have a scheduled C. Absolutely painless until she got home... The recovery time was a big deal for her. She couldn't even get off the couch. It also made breast feeding difficult. I also know a lady who had a C... I visited her in the hospital and her drainage tube got infected. I'm sure that doesn't happen very often but it was still pretty nasty. It would be hard to take care of the baby if you are a single mom with a C. But if you have a loving supportive family, it shouldn't be a big deal.
(As a side note... After giving birth to my daughter... My vagina has returned to normal... FYI)

Anybody that says a Cesarean is a "sea" section shouldn't even be having a baby. Your not giving birth to a sea urchin! Yes, now a days you do have a choice, though the whole reason a baby is supposed to come out naturally ladies and gentlemen is that when the baby passes through the birth canal it cleans the baby of any excess after birth and helps clear their lungs. And one more thing the vagina always goes back to its original size, its not true that you are "blown out" after wards unless maybe the doc doesn't stitch you back up. Hey but what do I know, I'm only a nurse.

I know what u are going through i was 17 when i has my first son and i might be pregnant again but back to you. i think you should have it natural birth. I know it is painful i had my son with out pain medication and i thought i was going to die but if you get meds i think it will be fine. A C Section should be the last thing you think about. A c section is needed when a baby is in distress and the doctors need to get it out asap. The best thing to do is talk to your doctor or a doctor. Well Good Luck!!!!!

C-sections aren't recommended unless there is some kind of fetal stress or the baby won't come out vaginally. Plus, a C-section is a very painful major surgery and many people don't realize that. It takes a long time to recover from that type of procedure and you'll have to deal with the pain and care for your baby. Natural vaginal birth is best.

I think you should really be looking into where you can get your baby adopted into a good home that can support the child. No child of 17 should try to raise a baby. It is not a puppy. It is a lifelong commitment to another human being. You both will be better off and you will understand this better as you mature. Get lots of counciling by social services. It is critical.

um i thought it was c-section...anyways, im 18, and found out i was pregnant at 17, i think you should do whichever you feel is right for you, in my case, im opting to go natural, only because i am afraid of being cut open...and i dont want an epiderial, which you get with the c-section...

Natural Labor is best for mom and baby... Surgey is risky..Natural Labor is painful but its also wonderful... The sense of pride and accomplishment is undescribable... And don't listen to myths about "poor sex life" as I saw some one put it.. Thats BS..
Take a childbirth class.. not just Lamaze but one that informs you about all aspects of childbirth.. You will find it to be worth it..
Congrats and Good Luck..

You should def. have it natural. Why do you ask? Do you have a "choice" of which way you want to deliver? Esp. if you are only 17, you don't want that scar and longer recovery. Even though natural labor is harder, it is SO worth it and SO MUCH more personal.

Scared? Well you should have thought of that before you got pregnant at 17. Your doctor will determine how you give birth based on conditions at the time of birth. I don't think the choice is up to you.
