Spain has been settled for a long time. It was once called Iberia, because of the Celts who lived there (the Celts today are the Irish, Scots, Welsh, Breton and Manx). It took the Roman Republic 200 years to conquer Iberia, at which point Romans and Celts bred freely. Around 450 AD the Visigoths, a major German tribe, conquered what is now Spain and mixed with the native population. Around 900 AD Muslims from North Africa conquered much of Spain. They were very racially mixed. There was also a large population of Jews until the last half of the 15th century, when all Jews and Muslims were driven out of Spain.
In other words, Spaniards are a Heinz 57 type people.

Those labels don't mean anything either. Ethnically the Spanish are Catalan, Basque, Aragonese, Castillian, and some are of Greek derivation, and some are Celto-Iberian, Ligurian and North African, Arab, some Roman. Some of these are language based, some are kingdom based, all of them are very old. some are older than others. Spain was united by a union of Aragon and Castile and the conquest of Arab Spain by Isabella and Ferdinand (yes them) in 1492.
Mistizo means different things in different Latin countries, and African American is wholly self identifying. It doesn't have a specific meaning. "race counts for a lot in this world, but it really means nothing, there is only one sentient bipedal species with oposable thumbs. That's all of us.

Their over-all "race" is homo sapien (all human beings are of the same race). To use "race" to mean ethnicity is not accurate. Their ethnic type was Nordic or what is commonly called "white."
