AVG is a very good anti-virus and is absolutely spyware/virus free, there are no gimmicks with it. And also spybot and adaware are good for spyware removal. They have nothing to do with viruses, I dont know why people are suggesting them for viruses.

ok your in luck because this is what I do for a living. I am all about getting and giving free software. I use software written by a company called Grisoft. They not only have anti-virus software but they also have the anti-spyware software which both work very well.
All you have to do is go to ...

http://www.free.grisoft.com

This is AVG's free versions which work just great. You can cut and paste the URL into your browser.

Be sure to un-install the Nortons software because other wise it will not allow you to download another anti-virus program into your system without trying to destory on another. Nortons is installed under the add/remove programs under Nortons or even Symantec.

Hope this helps

Free and Good are not going to go together for Anit-Virus Software. If you do find a "Free" Anti-Virus software program on the internet be very careful it is most likey either a fraud or actually will put Spyware on your system.

If you just want Anti Adware Ad-Aware by Lavasoft is pretty good and it is free. Just be sure you are getting the one from Lavasoft, others with similar names are actually Spyware. But the problem with Ad-Aware is that it does not include an Anti-Virus program.

I don't really like Norton either, but have had pretty good luck with Anti-Cyber Crime professional by Secure Resoltions. It is not free but it is only $40 for two licences, I think they still have a $30 version that includes just 1 license.

Avast anti-virus Home Edition : www.avast.com

Note: it doesn't offer spyware protection, for that, get Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
