First of all, people die everyday all over the place. Unless there was some type of a dramatic death, I doubt that you will learn anything. Spirits aren't necessarily someone who died in the house.
TRY THIS....
Find an herbal store and buy a small bundle of SAGE.
Tie it tightly and step out the front door. Together, light the SAGE with a match so that it is smokey and enter the house. Walk through each room and from corner to corner w/ the smoking SAGE and tell the spirit to leave and go to towards the light.
This should help the ghost to make the transition to the other side.

Yes, I definitely believe in ghosts. I saw one just the other day in the bathroom of the school where I teach. I was working late and went into the girls bathroom. As I turned the corner where the sinks and stalls are, I was looking into the stalls to find a clean one and saw (out of the corner of my eye), someone dressed in blue, leaning over one of the sinks. I was about to move down to the next stall so I looked up to move past this person and there was no one there. It's a 150 year old building. This is just the most recent sighting I've had, I've had many.
Also i think the devil sends people to make your life hard , especially if your a christian, but remember god is the one who controlls what the devil can and cant do , so all in all its for our own good . can the devil send spirits well if u open the door to him well yea he can do alot to ya

You may be able to check town records to see what may have happened in your house prior to your moving in. Also, check out the local papers, see if there's any record of something happening in the area, murders, suicides, etc.
I'm not sure how true it is, but I've been told that in some states there are clauses concerning this. The realtors aren't required to tell you if something tragic happened in a house you're interested in buying, unless you ask them. If something did happen there, most times you can get the house at a really low rate because of it. Just an FYI for the next house you buy or anyone who may be looking.

The town library like in all those Horror movies tend to keep newspapers that goes as far back as the town does. If you are religious of any faith asking a preist, pastor or rabbi to bless the house may do the trick.

start with city hall......see if you can get a list of previous owners, go to the library and check out old news papers........find the oldest person in the neighborhood and see what they know (might not want to mention the ghost part since some don't believe) and see if they know anything.

You may be able to get the information on previous owners of the property from the Land Titles office, from there you may be able to find out if anyone passed away in the house.

Yes, I do believe in "spirits".
I recently went to the Cresent Hotel in Heber Springs Arkansas and seen a spirit.
The hotel is supposed to be incredibly haunted, but the spirits seemed harmless.
They wont bother you unless you bother them.
