In the summer time the northern hemisphere gets more light, due to the earth's tilt, in the winter time we get less light because we're angled away from the sun, this is opposite for the southern hemisphere. We're closest to the sun in the winter, rather than summer, interesting fact for you.
To person below: if you are in the southern hemisphere then you'd be right if you're still going with northern hemisphere seasons... look it up.

The inclination of the Earth's axis to the orbital plane of the Earth around the Sun brings about variations in day time and night time at a place. If the Earth's rotational axis were to be perpendicular to the plane of orbit, the day and night would have been equal throught the year at all places on the earth. When there is summer in the northern hemisphere, the north pole is continuously exposed to the Sun for six months due to the inclination of the axis.At that time if you travel towards Equator, this six month's sunshine period will gradually reduce and at the Equtor, it will reduce to half day the remainig half day being the night time.If you cross the Equator and proceed further, night time wil increase and become six months in the South pole.So the tilt of the earth's axis is responsible for the variations of day and night timings. The reverse thing happens when the southern hemisphere experiences summer.

nicely, my fav time of the 365 days.. is summer time, the position the days look longer and the nights shorter.. so i might want to assert the latter.. easily if you're vacationing and opt to work out more than a number of places.. yet i do not sleep a lot, maximum situations in elementary words six hours and through the week-ends I seize up..
