I think it is but one of my mates says she is simply talking her mind. Just need to prove the results of this to her, whatever it turns out to be.

Saying 'I don't like pakis' would usually be regarded as racist. However, alot of people would agree that it is no different to saying I don't like aussies, limeys or chinkys; and these comments are not necessarily viewed as racist remarks. It amazes me how there are double standards! I also believe that the social creation of political correctness is a crock of sh*t! In my opinion, your friend is being prejudiced, not racist. Prejudice is a common trait in alot of people. Alot of the time, speaking your mind does not make something right, and, quite often can get someone into trouble. It is always best to be diplomatic. It is not what you say that matters, but how you say it!

I deplore racism, however I have doubts as to whether the term Pakis is racist or not, the reason being is that we English refer to Australians as Aussies, Scottish as Scots or jocks, Americans as yanks, Japanese as Japs, Argentinians as Argies also we English are refered to as Limeys, Poms, John Bulls and many other names and I don't know of anyone who seems to take offence at these terms so it seems to me that referring to people from Pakistan as Pakis seems to be just the same as the other peoples mentioned already plus any more that you can think of. I also live in a town with a large Asian community and some them through the pages of our local newspaper letters page have said that this term Pakis does not offend them. I hope these comments are of some help to you and your girlfriend. Goodnight.

If she's met every single person in the world that's a "Paki" and didn't like any of them aside from the cause of their race, that's not racist. But since that's kind of impossible or really difficult to meet all of them and not like at least one, I'd say yeah, that's a racist comment.

I think your 'friend' is a racist, most definitely, its like me calling someone else a 'chinky' instead of 'oriental' - not nice. 'Paki' in your 'friends' vocabulary could mean any person with a slightly darker colour, even if that person was a Sri Lanken or Indian. Take your friend back to school, I doubt she learnt anything properly the 1st time she went.

Saying that you dont like a race isn't totally racist but saying Pakis made it racist no doubt.
Basically racisim is more bashing a race in some way or another than just saying you dont like it. I'm not saying your friend is or isn't racist though.

this always bugs me for some reason, because it is just shortened, like Aussie, Scot, etc, other examples are, taffy, paddy, kiwi, yank, spink, ruskie, pom, are these people offended?

I as a Taffy, take it in my stride, so what the feck is the diff?
Anybody who is a Pakistani out there got an answer?

I find that a lot of white people are 'embarrassed' by mates like these. Don't worry 'cos she won't be a mate for long when you find out she has other 'faults' as well. It won't be long before you are under attack by this individual. Also speaking your mind doesn't always mean you're right.

No, not "racist". Just Her opinion, which I happen to agree with! The accent alone, does not allow me to get close. Worse than FINGERNAILS on a blackboard. Cannot stand it, at all. I do not know why. Just irks me, the sound. Sorry!

It's short for Pakistani, I think it is perceived as racist even though in theory it is an abbreviation.
