I saw that commercial for "Slomming". To Slom is to put leaches on your body. S.L.O.M. stands for Sticking Leaches On Myself. The commercial was addvertising "Living above the influence". Is this practice a real thing that teenagers really do?

No, not before that idiotic commercial. The idea is "ew, this activity is really gross," while presenting in such a way as to be alluding to drug use.

Obviously the ironic intent did not get across very well, or else there wouldn't be kids in Texas doing it, and you wouldn't be asking this question.

God I hate the drug war.

Don't have a clue and it is a barbaric treatment that was used in the late 19th century for blood letting when people were sick. It has no real medical value and is really unsanitary and nasty. If people are doing this, they are wrong and a little bit off their rocker so to speak. lol I never saw the commercial but would think it is being sarcastic, not really promoting it. I would see it as a way of saying so, if other people decide to do something as gross and nasty as this and call it cool, does that mean you'll go along with them and do it too. I think that is the message, really!

It's suppose to be fake but after the commerical aired, some kids started doing it. some said they got high and other said they didn't. it's all rather stupid.

leeches actually do have a medical purpose though. some medical treatments use leeches to promote blood circulation after vessels have been damaged.

If they didn't do it before, they will now that they've seen a witty commercial about it. They will also videotape it and put it on youtube.

Medical practitioners used to use leeches....I suppose now, it's left to those who would other wise be hurting themselves in another way...
