One with an Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2050 (1.60GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache) or an Intel Celuron 1.80 GHz Processor? Both systems have 1 GB of ram.

the T2050 is the faster processor since it is dual core it is able to handle more threads at one time. It also has twice the cache (memory on the processor itself) that the Celeron has. so It is not technically double the speed or output it does signficatently improve the overall processing of the Chip. It's similar two running to lawnmowers in tandem across a yard, twice the work getting done faster even if you have to step a bit slower.

The Intel Core Duo is faster than the Celeron.
The Core Duo has 2 cores while the Celeron has only one. Plus, the Celeron has a dramatically smaller L2 Cache compared to the Duo's 2MB cache.

The Duo was made for multimedia/gamer enthusiasts.
Use the Celeron only if you plan on just doing basic business work like word processing, writing emails, and surfing the web.

I personally would recommend a Intel Core Duo if money is not a limiting factor.

Nobody has explained it to you. Sure, it's two CPUs in one.

But they're still talking about the GHz...they don't matter. It's about the architecture of the chip itself, the design at the nanometer level.

Just like when the AMD 64's were running much lower GHz than the Pentium 4s, yet the AMDs stomped the P4s.

One such chip was the AMD Athlon 64 3200. It was clocked at a whole 2.0ghz, but the 3200 denoted that it would compete with a 3.2ghz P4.

Check out this CPU chart:

Look at the red bars, a AMD 3200+ vs a 3.2ghz P4

Please please please do not even speak the word " Celeron".
Celerons were designed for business apps & will disappoint any mulimedia enthusiast or gamer.
Go for the Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2050 .... no contest.

***** My personal theory about Celeron processors *****

The Celeron chip was created when Intel got a bad case of hemorrhoids.
After much itching & scratching, scabs formed over the hemorrhoids.
When the scabs dried & fell off, Intel picked them up ... looked at them proudly .... & announced :

" Behold... the Celeron chip !!!! "

the celuron is faster but its old and only has one core processor
i would chose the duo core since its a little bit faster but has 2 cores so its 3.2
