Fact from fiction, truth from diction. It is very interesting indeed. I guess as the child of an Asian/Black union(which in itself is close to a miracle in this nation)you are in fairly uncharted waters. The most public example I had to see was Tiger Woods. I wonder what the Asian community though of him? Do they see him as one of their own, or as African American as most people? In the mediia when they mention his Asian side, to me, it seems awful begrudging. I know a few people(me included)would think your look very unique and exotic. But given where the information about Blacks as a whole comes from, the media. I can see why the Asian side of your make up is cold. The media, overall, doesn't paint a very flattering face on African Americans. Mostly those in the media not an athlete or an entertainer is seen living in squalor or in hand cuffs. Certainly adds confidence when you tell your son or daughter to go find a mate. Why would you want them to be with someone the media routinely shows as a loser by proxie?(if you can feel the sarcasm it was totally intended) As far as the African American side. As it was when I was growing up, if you were "blended" you were treated better. In stores, by teachers. Maybe they were not even aware they were doing it, but they were, and WE felt it. And some of the kids would play that card to get better than us "chocolate" Blacks and some even got to BELIEVE they were slightly better because they were not TOTALLY Black. So, maybe some of the Black people you hang around or have to deal with, think you will try to use it as a way to distance yourself from the full "chocolate" blacks. But in any case, you have a unique mark up amnd I would not let anyone knock me for that, if I were you.

I think fear is the answer to your question. People fear what they perceive as different or what they do not understand. As to your situation, I have several mixed friends and they all say the same - when they were young they were not accepted into either ethnic group of their origin. They were too this or too that. As they got older, they developed friendships with people who didn't care one way or another. I think it must be a maturity thing. As we get older we care less and less about what our peers think about our personal choices in friends. However, some people get stuck - they can't get passed the fear - fear that was instilled by parents, bad experiences, other influential adults? Even people who are friends with different races - some of them still have fears and make generalizations about races. I don't get that, but it seems hard to make someone see that there is a problem with that - it's as though they've become comfortable with that fear - as if it protects them some how.
My best to you.

inferior! I don't think so! a threat maybe so!
if you look at the past, why would white people separate black family's. Because a black mother or father would kill or be killed in the process of saving their child from being abused. Meaning if black people are committing suicide to save their love ones life they wouldn't make a profit. White people in-slaved black people thinking that blacks are athletically built. Working the fields faster and longer (labor). Coming out of slavery when no one even considered blacks as humans, makes us more powerful then ever. In slavery years there wasn't no Asians, Mexican, or whatever else, it was black and white in America and sh%t was fu%ked up.
Today 2007 its alot of mixed race with the coast being clear. I don't think less of you because if it was years ago you would'nt exist and if you did you were even killed at birth or considered a N. so your just like me!

I always told my children to remember you are not better than anyone but there is no one better than you. You are so fortunate not to have the cancer of prejudice. I look forward to the day that races will melt into a vision no one can tell what race you are. I know I won't be around to see it. But wouldn't it be wonderful. What we forget is that we all came from one beginning naturally or by God plan. Hold your head up and ignore the ignorance around you and then all will respect who you are not what you are.

Stupid people are afraid of anyone (or anything) different. They look for (and make up) reasons to be fearful, suspicious and hateful toward people that are different.
There is a direct correlation between intelligence and tolerance of ethnic, religious, physical differences.
They say the exception proves the rule ... look at Condoliza (Ms. Exxon oil tanker named after her) Rice. She's intelligent, black and possibly one of the most bigoted public people on the planet.
Go figure.

The old saying is true - You must first learn to love yourself. Be PROUD of your mixed background! You can educate ALL people. Raise your head and tell them ALL "I love being from two different backgrounds, I have the best of both worlds. I am a multi-culture work of art.
Does it sound arrogant - NO, it sounds as though you are proud of who GOD made you to be. People love to be around people who are confident, not arrogant, but confident. Show off your multi-culture style!

That's never going to happen unless people stop being stupid and we all know that's never going to happen. I'm half white half black and I went to a school where I had no friends besides another mixed girl ( half white half black ). It was crazy.

It's not your fault that your parents created you! I am from the old school and I firmly believe that different nationalities should not breed!! How do you think people react when they see 2 people together and they don't match!!! I put the blame on your parents.

First of all, prejudice is very difficult to deal with. What I am saying here is from experience. Prejudice is often the result of ignorance, and learned from childhood onwards. Do you love and accept yourself ? Jesus Christ said in the Bible to pray for them that persecute you. You keep on loving others. I live in Henderson, NC, and these things can result from people not wanting to interact with others for themselves. Those people that look down on you are just ignorant. Pay them no mind, and get on with your life !
