Toyota Landcruiser, Land Rover (preferably an old one), and Suzuki Sierra (known in the USA as the Suzuki Samurai.) I have seen those little Suzukis go places that all the others I have mentioned couldn't go - and not for lack of trying, either! Great approach angles, very light weight, low powered - enough power to keep you out of trouble, but not enough to get you into trouble. Yes, they are tall and narrow. They will fall over onto their side fairly easily. They also sustain almost no damage when this happens (this happened to a mate of mine. His Suzuki dropped 2 wheels off a ledge, the car fell down about 4 feet, landing on its side. Damage? A slightly twisted rear bumper, and a small dent in the rear panel. That's it.) Also, they are narrow enough that they can usually dodge between the trees and go around the obstacle that is trying to flip all the other 4-wheelers.

And are they ever cheap!

toyota landcruisers are very popular in australia, and i would have to say the most reliable. if there is any damage done to the chassis or panels, almost everything on the vehicle is interchangeable (bolt on style).

most country people around here use cruisers for 4wding
