why do some (a lot of ) goths claim to be individuals when they look exactly like all the other goths?

Well lemme ask you this why do ppl like jocks and ganstas say they are indivduals? When say this they don't mean they are indivduals through there look, they mean personality and goths don't go for the trendy look they go for looks that expresses themselves. And to tell you the truth goths are more true to themseleves then preps are cause they are not afraid to wear what they want. And to say what they wanna say.

They see themselves as deviants of society, thereby making them individuals in their own minds, respectively.

It probably also has to do with them trying to find their own niche into where they belong, like trying to find their identity in roles they see others portraying.

my GOD i wonder that all the time! its just another clique just like preppies and skaters and whatever. theyre no different. they all dye their hair black and wear black. how does that make you individual? its just more boring and alot less colorful and flattering.
