I noticed many exchanges today are exaggerated by emotions over the GWB regime.

After 08, new team move in the White House, the country may begin to re-unite and love one another again.

At least, I will.

The chances are small as long as we do nothing to improve national education and none of the power players in either party want that. Our childern are more concerned about Anna Nicole Death then the war in Iraq and both parties like it that way. Until we begin to stop being lemmings and start being Americans again it will be a long time before things get better. We had our chance right after 9-11 and then we blew it, we let fools on the right tell us Iraq had something to do with it, when we should have used are heads and knew they didnt and we let fools on the left tell us that we needed to hug and kiss the terrorist and that would make it better.

We need to stop allow both sides to push us around and move as a nation towards the middle but as long as Our children think that Brad and Angie are some how important then our future looks bleak

Ohhhhhh, I don't think there is a 'great divide'...just disagreement because of Iraq. Lets face the honest truth. The war is getting old for everyone, but we can't just pull out like they did with Nam.

I don't know what re-unite would mean in that respect. We should be united now..when our country is most vulnerable. There isn't much of a difference between a war in another country...and a war right here...is there? What we need to find in here is 'common ground' in which we express our views without the infliction of MEDIA coverage. We must stop comparing each other all the time, by the way we feel.

We must be real. Congress is fighting but should the fight ALWAYS be brought in here? Our guys are over there fighting for a divided nation. How much morale do you think they can suck up to equal the -10 where it's at now?

I doubt it. The Republicans have already done so much damage, I really don't see the divide healing anytime soon. If a Dem wins the presidency, the Rethuglicans will go after him/her JUST as they went after Clinton, and the Dems will rally. If a Republican "wins", it will probably mean that they have stolen *another* election, and the Dems won't take too kindly to that.

Although I've always been a Dem, I never used to loathe Republicans so much, but I sure do now (and I'm not alone)... The divide is too big now; it's impossible to imagine those passions (on both sides) simply evaporating.

Frankly I think such divisions are overblown by the media. It’s like Chris Rock said, “red states, blue states…..we got a whole nation that’s nothing but Crips and Bloods”. Most Americans are not liberal or conservative, at least not to the point that they can’t listen to the other side without foaming at the mouth. That being said, when Lee Atwater/Karl Rove politics passes from the scene, what divisions there are will begin to decrease.

GWB said he is a uniter not a divider. One of the few truths he has told. He has united more people against him than anyone could have imagined.

I believe the candidates both Democratic and Republican will be more willing to work with the loyal oppositon rather than the smug arrogance we've had with GWB.

This is a new era in politics the left has charted, so they will have to keep the blame and politics by polls and destruction through the 2010 mid terms and 2012 elections to hold power for neither democratic candidates has put forth any plans except sound bites.

The cons will be even more resentful because the Democratic party will have the white house and 80% of the House and 65% of the Senate

It's going to be pretty much split 50/50 for some time to come. Who ever makes it to the White House isn't going to change anyones opinion on either side.

I think so, it will depend on who gets elected.. I'd think that no matter who it is, only the extremes from both sides will continue to "hate".. Unless it's Dick Cheney, Hilary Clinton, another Bush or similiar... hmmmm

Not a chance. The Republicans will sit back and make snarky comments as to how the Dem's are unable to fix Iraq.
