I'm primering a basement with one less than half window that can open. Realisticly, I've been told it will take any where from 48 to 72 hours for it to dry. Is this true? We don't live there now, just fixing it up, but we are moving in Friday, I was hoping to paint before then, but what's your opinion? It's a 10 by 14 room that I'm worried about. They just finished the dry wall today and I'm primering tomorrow

oil primer is ready to paint in 24 hours, acrylic primers are ready to paint within 4 hours...weather is a factor, but blizzard means cold air outside cold is dry, if you want you can put a fan in the room to keep the air moving, that helps the drying process.

I don't think you have to wait that long. I just finished puting primer on many walls of a huge house (not on dry wall but I'm sure it's not that different) within 2 hours it was done drying. I guess it all depends on how think of a coat you put on the wall. I'm sure it will only take a few hours to dry NOT a few days.

since you are priming new drywall buy a PVA primer.

you could buy BEHR Premium Plus PVA PRIMER at Home Depot.

Dries to touch and can be topcoated in one hour at 77°F (25ºC) and 50% humidity. Longer drytime required in cooler temperatures and in higher humidity.

and NO, the weather will not be a factor. might just take a bit longer to dry.

Most primers (water based)say second coat in one hour. Put two coats of primer on and paint next day.

It depends on the weather & type of paint . Best thing to do is read the lable. It will give you a reasonable time.
