The fan in the laptop tends to get louder with age. There are usually two fans, or a fan with two speeds. If both fans, or the higher speed is constantly on, then it means the inside is getting clogged up with dust. Take some canned air, and give it a good blast through the vents (stand back though, a lot of dust comes flying out). Also, make sure you have enough space around the laptop. The intake vents are usually on on the bottom, so make sure they're not blocked (which makes using a laptop on the bed a bad idea). Excess heat doesn't hurt a laptop too much unless it is prolonged. They have a safety feature that shuts the laptop down if the heat gets dangerously high.

Yes your fan can blow, and that can result in a melted hardware.
So, you should run fewer programs at one time, this will make the fan go off.
Just use Crt+alt+Del, and close some programs
