Many of the above set the beginning of your qualifications.

If you want to forecast - a B. Sc. in Physics, Math, Meteorology (if offered) or even Geography will get you started. Then you need to pick up a few undergrad Meteorology courses if you haven't done so already.

After that is the tough part. The operational forecasting course and internship where you get the OJT you need to handle all the practical issues of preparing public, aviation or marine forecasts.

If you would rather become a weatherperson on television, the route to go is a degree or diploma in communications, coupled with certification from the AMS of CMOS (in Canada). Then you're on your way.

Other options include research or consulting in air quality or related fields.

In Australia you will need a Bachelor of Science degree, preferably with Honours, with majors in Maths and Physics. If selected, you will do further training with the Bureau of Meteorology, Monash University and RMIT for a Diploma in Meteorology.
