What's appropriate job interview attire for a web design job at a university?

In my area, design and tech firms are generally casual attire kinds of places (I can wear slacks and a nice sweater or shirt and be fine for an interview). However, I'm interviewing at a local university for a position there. I'm in my mid-20s, so I don't want to look too stuffy or pretentious. I should add that I'm female, but don't dress particularly feminine, so a skirt and blazer is out of the question. I only own 1 suit, and it's in the main color of the university, so I'm reluctant to wear it. Basically, should I be wearing a suit, slacks and a jacket, or just slacks and a business-casual shirt? Any help is appreciated.

i think slacks, suit and jacket is your best bet. you want to look professional, even if the place turns out to be more casual. once you get the job, you can wear what everyone else does. but right now, you want to look as professional as possible.

I don't know of any business, public or private, that would hold it against you for wearing professional attire to an interview for a professional job. That would mean suit and tie for men, business slacks or skirt and jacket or dress for women. Overdressing for an interview will not hurt you; undressing will.

As an ex corporate executive and hiring manager, I tend to be less impressed by female candidates who come for interview in slacks or trousers. Somehow it conveys an impression of casualness, but of course this is one guy's opinion.

You should consider a plain dark skirt a few inches below the knee, complemented by a dark jacket and a pastel or light-colored blouse. Wear plain pumps or low-to-midhigh heels; too high heels do not give an impression of professionalism.

Light makeup; not too heavy on the eyelids and lashes.

Finally, your demeanour and enthusiasm for the job and its responsibilities should be very evident; do not talk about salary unless asked, do not ask about benefits or time off ( those can always come later ). Be interested in the job, its duties and objectives.

I would wear the slacks, & a jacket with a dress shirt or sweater.
The colour being the same as the university colours shouldn't matter unless it's really obvious. Am not sure that they would put it together.
