First, I start off by saying, it really doesn't hurt but it is uncomfortable.........the patient will lay on her back, the clinician will often first examine the outside of the patient's genital and rectal areas, including the urethra (the opening where urine leaves the body), to assure that they look normal. A speculum is then inserted into the vaginal area (the birth canal). The speculum is an instrument that allows the vagina and the cervix to be viewed and examined. A cotton swab is sometimes used to clear away mucus that might interfere with an optimal sample.

A small brush called a cervical brush is then inserted into the opening of the cervix (the cervical os) and twirled around to collect a sample of cells. This sample, because it comes from inside the cervix, is called the endocervical sample ("endo" meaning inside). A second sample is also collected as part of the Pap smear and is called the ectocervical sample ("ecto" meaning outside). These cells are collected from a scraping of the area surrounding, but not entering, the cervical os. Both the endocervical and the ectocervical samples are gently smeared on a glass slide and a fixative (a preservative) is used to prepare the cells on the slide for laboratory evaluation.

A bimanual (both hands) exam usually follows the collection of the two samples for the Pap smear. The bimanual examination involves the examiner inserting two fingers of one hand inside the vaginal canal while feeling the ovaries and uterus with the other hand on top of the abdomen (belly).

The results of the Pap smear are usually available in 2 to 3 weeks. At the end of Pap smear testing, each woman should ask how she should expect to be informed about the results of her Pap smear. If a woman has not learned of her results after a month, she should contact her clinician's

First , they made me get into those extraordinary paper robes. They do a breast examination, they're searching for any lumps or abnormalities. They take an device referred to as a speculum and insert it into the vagina. Then they start commencing it up so as that they'd see the cervix. It feels very uncomfortable, yet no longer painful. purely take some very deep breaths. Then they simply take an exceedingly long cotton swab and swab the cervix, sometimes you may experience this. this entire technique in basic terms takes some seconds. Then they are going to likely insert their arms into the vagina to experience the uterus and make valuable thats wonderful additionally. the whole examination probably takes 10 minutes with each thing. It sounds so plenty extra in touch than this is. the main uncomfortable section for me is purely having somebody observing your privates in an up close and private style of way. Its very awkward.

Pap smear is when a gynocologist (ie: the Who Ha doctor) takes a sample of the cells on your cervix. Your cervix is what separates your vagina from your uterus. Go here:

This is done in the doctor's office, using what may look like a little mini bottle brush (really really little...don't panic).

It ususally doesn't hurt but it can be uncomfortable and crampy. Best to take an Advil 30 minutes before if you're typically sensitive.

It's not necessary to get one until you're sexually active. There's now an HPV vaccine for women 9-29 years of age, also if you've begun sexual activity. A Pap test is for detecting cervical cancer. And it is uncomfortable. But not painful, providing you remain relaxed. They have to insert a metal whatever to open your V-area and then the doctor takes a swab which is then sent to a lab to see if any cancer cells are present. It should be done once a year. And it's very important for every woman to do that to take care of herself properly. You know the saying, "An ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure!""

They usually do a breast exam first. Then they take a long cotton swab and insert it into you. It's sorta uncomfortable. It really just depends on how tense and nervous you are going into it. If you have to have it done, I reccomend that you try to relax. It'll make the experience easier for you. Just remember that no matter how much it stinks, it's a part of life and everyone has to go through it. And you can find out about your potential for cervival cancer. All in all, it's no fun, but once it's over you'll be like; so what? No big deal.

A pap smear is when they take a sample of cells from the cervix. Some women experience a little discomfort when the samples are taken, because of the scraping feeling.

I don't know how old you are, but if you are sexually active or over 18 you should be getting one soon. They don't really hurt. They are uncomfortable though. I'm not easily embarrassed by things I can't help, so being probed isn't to bad for me. I do think it hurts just a little bit when they are swabbing the inside though. Don't be afraid. I'm sure you don't have anything the doctor hasn't seen, and it's relatively painless.

they dont hurt, just a lil uncomfortable. at the gyn, the doc puts a speculum in you vagina, which is just a tool that holds it open. the doc has to reach the cervix which is about a fingers lenght up into your vagina. he then takes a qtip like thing and swabs your cervix. the material that comes off on the swab, he will send to a lab to check for any abnormalitites. you'll have to go thru it eventually, its no big deal but its also very important to have one a year. especially if ur sexually active.

they are embarrassing no matter how many times they get done, they do not hurt, they put a speculum (looks like a duck bill) inside you and open it so they can see better they also have a light. they then take a swab and a sample with a wand with a brush and the pap part is done.

Pap smear is done by your doctor to check your cervix for abnormal cells, basically you go in put your legs up in stirrups and the doctor will use a speculum to open up your vagina (sdounds worse than it is) its a little uncomfortable but doesnt hurt. then they will take swabs of cells from your cervix and send them off for testing, it takes about 5 mins and isnt as bad as you'd think, you get to cover most ov yoursekf with a sheet and rembemer that your doctor will have seen HUNDREDS of vaginas..i try and laugh it off....
