Actually, he wrote/sang "IMAGINE no possessions", that does not, necessarily, mean that he had any intention to eschew personal possessions at all. He indicated that "it was easy if you try", and thus that he could imagine such a state, but still, that is no indication of his intent.

I find people like Kurt Cobain far more hypocritical, with their whining about being popular and famous.

John Lennon did the main suitable he ought to. He grew to become into in basic terms a individual. surely everyone, surely everyone human in the international has a substantial or substantial flaws. genuine, he grew to become into wide-unfold for being an alcoholic and not very good with Julian (it is why Paul McCartney wrote "whats up Jude" in honor of Johns son) and likewise he use to make enjoyable of a crippled guy as a toddler yet you are able to no longer deny the flaws he accomplished grew to become into staggering. a minimum of John is worth of the identify "Peace Maker". In honesty, what number John Lennons will we even have presently? purely musicians and actors. the sole time the teenagers of immediately "appreciates" Johns music is whilst some type of "disaster" is underway like a terrorist assault on u . s . a . of america. Jimmy Carter grew to become right into a tremendous President, yet did HE end wars to boot? No. Face info: musicians and actors make greater ideal politics than politicians do ninety% of the time. Whats the main suitable Bush has accomplished? deliver greater infantrymen to get blown up in Iraq and say he's sorry whilst he rather isn't. John Lennons songs had meanings, like Bob Marley or maybe Bob Geldof.

No. John knew very well his position. He was the biggest rock star in the world for years. He wrote many songs and that was one of them.

The world he lived in when he wrote it would not make sense to most people now. He wanted to express to the Capitalistic West the point of view of the Marxist East. This kind of blending opposite ideas was typical of his wit as a songwriter, and also may have helped bring these worlds a little closer to understanding each other. He was using his fame to make people think more openly and to create a framework for a world that would no longer allow wars to start.

To understand the Sixties, you kind of had to live them. Your question would never occur to anyone who did. That's OK. We have this world to live in and to "come together" in; in part because of John Lennon and his insight. Remember, in reality, he was a man,not a god, and he was a poet, not a politician.

I don't think that he wanted a world without material possessions as much as he wanted a world where fighting over them was obsolete.
As he earned his Rolls Royce by producing music that was bought voluntarily by fans, didnt' incite any wars nor killed his competition, I'd say he was right on.

LISTEN to that song.

He did NOT say "I would like a world without material possessions".

I'm sure he was a hypocrite in some respects, we all are, but that is NOT what "Imagine" (the greatest song ever written) said.

I think while he liked the idea of a world without material posessions, etc., he did not exclude himself from the gluttonous masses. He was just asking us to imagine a world like that, he did not outright say he was perfect and followed his own words.

A millionaire who touted communism. A man who preached peace but had a violent temper...even put a guy in the hospital once when he accused him of gettin' busy with Brian Epstien. He sang about love but hated the three guys he worked with. He showered Yoko and Sean with attention but basically dumped Julian and Cynthia like garbage.

Yeah, but aren't we all hypocrites at some point in our lives?

And I still like the Beatles anyway.
