While there were many who first produced a workable, dependable semi-automatic rifle on a large scale, the first recorded person who actually produced a workable prototype of a semi-automatic rifle was John M. Browning using a converted Winchester leveraction rifle. This was well before the M1 Garand or any of the others. He actually did it prior to coming out with his semi-auto pistols.

John Garand invented the M1 semiautomatic rifle in 1934.

IDK, but my uncle has a fully automatic and it's made by Mattel - the same company that makes Mattel toys! This is true, I personally saw the markings (stamps) and was quite shocked. It does not say toys, but the logo is the same.
