Well, ye of short memory or limited age, you may recall that Saddam would regularly lock on with radar to US aircraft that protected the no fly zone of Iraq. This was part of the UN charter that Iraq was forbidden to fly it's aircraft in the no fly zone, and the US regularly patrolled this area to see that he didn't violate this agreement.
Saddam, in his infinite arrogance, decided to start targeting US aircraft, even though the UN charter specifically considered this to be in violation. So, the Republican minority leader was correct, regarding provocative acts of Saddam Hussein.
I don't speak for the Pentagon regarding it's intentions about Iran, but with two carrier groups soon to be in the Persian Gulf, I doubt that this is a rendezvous for valentines day.

That is a poor excuse to try to lay on Iraq, to try and get out of their President doing a preemptive strike on a country that had not done one thing to America. They are foolish people that always lay the blame on someone else. Bush doesn't want Ben Laden , so he tries to put the word out in his feeble little mind that Saddam was the cause of 9/11. Over look if you can people that lost all the houses and they know their going to lose the White
House and their running out of time.

It did in World-War 1, WW II, Korea, and Vietnam ( and in 1979 when Iran kidnapped and held our Embassy people in a prison for a year). What's different today?
The reasons are the same in character.
Keep in mind that the USA is a "re-action" country. Like our police forces we have to wait until something is done to us before we respond.
The Kaiser started WW I, Hitler WWII, Kim IL Song in Korea and the North Vietnamese in Vietnam. As soon as we find out positively which Iranian bombed our twin towers, we will re-act as violently as necessary ( at least we should).

sure. We raided an Iranian office in Iraq, so now they should be able to murder three Americans of their choice in retribution.
