They're gonna lose in the semifinals and Pittsburgh is winning it all.

Bottom line is with Brodeur they will always have a chance. Hot goalies can take a team far in the playoffs as is done every year.Last year Ward and Roloson (neither considered an elite goaler) stood on their heads and led their teams to the finals simply by being hot at the right time and handling the pressure. Brodeur has a track record of performing well in the big games (3 Cups, pretty good in my book). They arent as talented defensively as in the past but they have a team that is built around the playoff style hockey so while not always impressive during the season they will always be a threat during playoff time. They will have their hands full though, there are some pretty good teams they need to get through with Buffalo being the biggest threat (make no mistake Ryan Miller has won at every level and is plenty capable of winning a Cup with his mentality and game and he has a real good team around him). But right now they look like contenders and I am sure nobody looks forward to facing them during the playoffs.

Well, they have three things going for them:

1) Brodeur - now that's a proven goalie!
2) They play a strong defensive style, as they did when they won before.
3) They have an exceptional home record so far this year!

Do they have a chance to win it all! Yes! They should be one of 4 or 5 teams that you view as having a shot at it!
Will they win it? Well, I am not a Devils fan so I do not get to see their games very often. I don't think they will.... BUT, I will make sure to try and draft some Devils players in playoff hockey pools just in case! ;-)

Cheers.

Of Course the Devils have what it takes. It all depends on health and morale. The Devils have the team to romp through the playoffs and win it for the fourth time in their history! They can definately use a big guy though, like a guy that will strike fear into the eyes of others. If the Devils want to win with what they have, they must play their own style of hockey, taking the lead and sticking to it without errors or hesitation and let's face it, a little luck. There's a lot of great teams out there. Go Devils!

I'd like to think they could. They have the talent and they have Brodeur.. BUT I also agree with Matt M.. NOT having Niedermeyer HURTS. People don't realise what a HUGE asset he was to that team he and Scott Stevens will definitely be missed on the blueline. HOWEVER.. DO NOT overlook the guys they have now. They are quietly winning. what's so odd is how much under the radar they are. People really aren't giving them much respect. Come playoff time you have to look at one name.. Brodeur. Neither Carolina or Buffalo is going to sneak up on teams this year. New Jersey can play with the best of them.
I definitely give them the better odds.

maybe it's unfair for me to answer this since i'm a diehard devils fan... but i definitely think they have what it takes and heres why:

1. BRODEUR and more brodeur. not much else to say there
2. EXPERIENCE...13 of the devils 20 regular players have won a cup or multiple cups, i highly doubt theres any other team with that many winners. experience is sometimes more important than pure skill
3. the devils play great defense but also have some power up front... they are all committed to their system and know what it takes to win, and a lot of their players really rise to the occasion come playoff time.

i don't know if the devils will win it all, but they certainly have a chance!

I dont see it happening because they dont have Scott Niedermeyer and Scott Stevens on the blue line anymore. Now they have guys like Alex Brooks and johnny aduie. Martin brodeur can only take so much.

No, because that would involve getting past the Sabres in the East, and let's be serious people, that sure as hell ain't gonna happen.

This season, I believe the Sabres will. But they will eventually.. Gionta + Elias + Gomez = one hell of a forward line.

I don't see them getting passed the Semi-Finals, but it's still too early to tell.
