what are the two arrows at the top of the ipod for when it freezes?

i turned on the computer while the ipod was on and it sto[ped working and it hasnt turned of or started playing again what do i do

You should try reseting it by:

Holding the cnter button + Menu at the same time for about 15seconds

Try forcing a reboot. To do this, slide the hold button to the Locked position, then back to the Unlocked position. Then press and hold both the center button and the menu button until the screen goes blank and switches to the Apple logo.
