I have always been a big gateway fan always been a good dependable machine and affordable. my new gateway is a dream machine, much mush more than basics etc.. and was 749.00 . try shopping at best buy they have the best prices they carry many brands of laptops such as gateway, compaq, HP, Toshiba,sony, many others to choose from.and they offer 100% price match and are always happy to assist. They usually run some very affordble sales and good dependable machines..i would stay away from the BIG 4 letter word DELL. its just the name, Acer some say are so great. i do not like acer . I work on many computers and Acer just isnt a very cooprtive . but some have had good luck .. with them but try best buy.. or try online at www.bestbuy.com Good luck.. ttyl

Since the "Best" cost several grand, you might consider an off-lease computer. An example is the IBM T30; cost $3000+ new, about $400 off-lease. Check eBay ond other discounters. Research the model at PCWORLD.COM. Since they are already in use, you can get feedback from users. Some get very hot, others have short battery life.

I bought my Dell for about $650, and I'm completely satisfied. However, just like anything else, if you don't take care of it, then it won't last.
