UCLA - top school in a nice part of LA
USC - top school in a BAD part of LA
UCI - near the beach in one of the nicer cities in the state (your school near Newport Beach)

don't forget UC San Diego. It's SoCal. Best weather and right on the beach.

More inland, the Pomona schools are go. Pomona, Claremont McKenna, and Harvey Mudd.

Cal Tech is another top school in LA that people forget.

You may want to count UC Santa Barbara. Some people argue that's in SoCal.

Any of the UCs in SoCal- especially UCLA- are excellent educational options. A UC (university of California) degree is highly respected and will set you on the road to success. UCs are also a lot cheaper than private univiersities. However, if you don't have the grades or the money (as it does cost a pretty penny), you may want to consider a CSU. CSU (california state universities) are signifigantly cheaper and easier to get into. Off hand, I know of two in the LA area- CSULA and CSU Northridge. A degree from them may have less weight than one from a UC, but they'll do the trick.

Some private SoCal universities you may want to look into are USC (University of Southern California) or Pepperdine.

Good luck, and check out this site:

There are good schools in southern Cali. but that should not be your question for college. People wake up its not about the schools greatness its about what you want to do. Some colleges specialize in certain fields. For example you wouldn't go to Santa Clara University to be a doctor you would go to Stanford. San Jose state one of the best for nursing not to be a lawyer or judge you would go to Santa Clara. Then you have colleges like Chico that don't have anything except a good time.

Not really. At least when you get into college.. people wake up and relize that you are wasteing money. But you can wear what you want to wear. It honestly does not matter
