This is a word problem and I have to find the errors in the equations and correct it. This is the problem first: Maria has $3000 to invest between two accounts and wants an overall yield of 7.5%. One account earns 5% and the other earns 9%. Suppose a student writes the 2 equations to rep. this situation:

The equations are: Investment equation-----> x+y=3000
Interest equation------> .05x+.09y=.075...What did I do wong with the investment and Interest equations? I just have to fix the equations....Plz help!

x and y are the proportions in each account
like if you had 1000 in one account and 2000 in the other account
so x = 1/3 and y = 2/3 (just an example)

x+y = 3000
0.05*(x/3000) + 0.09*(y/3000) = .075

i think that is right...
