There actually isn't a law about that in CT. I grew up there. My mom first started leaving me alone for very short periods of time when I was about 9 or 10 but it wasn't often. By 12, I came home to an empty house after school and was alone for about 2 hours every day.

In Wisconsin, as with many states, there is no "legal" age- it all has to do with the particular situation. If there is a problem, they would assess your child, what happened, etc. I was shocked that there wasn't an age.

It's a ''gray area'' although the rule of thumb seems to be 14 years old. Keep in mind though, they leave this area gray so if something should happen they can screw you!

11 is a good age, unless you crate them, then 2 or 3 years old.
