Might want to check out Gary Paulsen. He wrote Hatchet (story of a young boy that survives a small place crash and is on his own) and has many other titles.

Walter Dean Myers has a book called Monster, written in script form about a young man charged with a serious crime. He has other works as well.

P.S. Maybe Piers Anthony, if you like fantasy. He has a series about a land called Xanth (which looks like Florida, the author's home state). The book is full of puns, colorful characters and interesting magic.

One of my son's all time favorite books was Phantom Tollbooth. He still re-reads it and he is 18. He also liked Johnny Tremain - that is about a boy during the time of the American Revolution (if he likes history, it is a great book). Garfield or Calvin and Hobbes books are always fun to read!

Narnia
Eragon, Eldest
Harry Potter
Series of Unfortunate Events

As you can see I like reading fantasy books. I don't know any others that a boy would like..

Peter and the Starcatchers

Peter and the Shadow Theives

Archer's Goon

Hangman's Curse

Chasing Vermeer

Agatha Christie...

It depends on your style. Do you like fantasy? If so, pick the first four. Historical Fiction? The sixth. Mystery? Agatha Christie and Hangman's Curse.

Also, it depends on your maturity.
