Speciation occurs when the gene pools of two poplulations change oer time in differnt directions. The organisms chacnge so much that they can no longer mate and become different speices. What are two ways populations become isolated from each other?

The most evident one is Land mass separation like continental drift, or an island.

You just have to think of events that could cause separation of members of a population. Geographic separation is obvious, but what about temporal variation, or diet variation, ie part of the population eats plant A while others eat plant B.

Allopatric speciation and parapatric speciation. Also peripatric speciation. We will not mention sympatric speciation in this discussion. Google the first three for complete explanations.

A catastrophic event separating the two.

I never saw any kind of "speciation" occuring.

Migration for food is the number one factor, floods, island isolation for example chimps and bonobos
