I find used books all the time for $1.00 or cheaper but by the time they charge shipping I may as well buy the book new at a local bookstore.

Amazon does have some cheap books, but like you said, if it's from a vendor, they automatically charge $3.49 per book (that's Amazon's policy) - so a penny book comes to $3.50. Not bad, but it's media mail and might take a while.

P.S. Amazon has a number of titles available, buy 3 get the 4th free, and if you've spent enough, shipping and handling is free for super saver.

Try eBay, too. I suggest that because sellers there can combine shipping and some have great deals. You might even get a lot of books.

A couple of other sites to check out to compare prices: www.addall.com or www.fetchbook.info. I think there's another paperback swapping site - I wrote it down to check it out, but can't find it. I've read www.craigslist.com is good, but haven't gone there, either.

Well, the Internet is very, very useful, we use it for information, games, music, videos, chat, etc. The Internet is going to have a lot of abilities in the future. A couple years ago, the internet can have a webcam on it. That is now popular. I can't really predict what special stuff the Internet will have in the next 10 years. You have to think. What capabilities did the Internet have 10 years ago? Here is a personal experience- My family got the internet around 1997. I remember the day when my dad dished out a ton of money to put in a 56k modem into our computer. When we received the internet, I remember not knowing what to do with it. But over time of course, I learned, and I haven't stopped since. Here is a list of a few things I remember from the internet when I first got it. Perhaps some of you can relate to it. * Seeing What Websites Existed I remember grabbing regular packages around the house and looking up any kind of website I could. I remember testing URLs to see if a site even existed. Our computer was so bad at the time, the internet froze after looking at one page. So I had to write down URL links, close the browser, and start again using the new link URL. * The Dancing Baby This was a 3D studio max creation in 1996. It swept the internet shortly after. I remember spending time downloading this thing and watching it and thinking it was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen. It still is pretty cool, looking back at it. * AOL Search AOL was not our internet service provider, we had our internet locally. However, that was what I use to use back then to search up websites. * Poorly Done Websites Some websites today still suck, even if they're new. However, do you remember how most websites had bright flashy backgrounds, midi music in the background, and you had to scroll down page after page to read the whole site? It was terrible compared to what we have today. *Waiting 2 hours to download an 8 minute video When the internet came to my family household, Titanic was popular at the time. I remember loving the movie so much that I would go online just to download small clips and trailers from the movie. Eventually I did this for a lot of films, but I distinctly remember doing it a lot for Titanic footage Now, you should be able to figure out what the Internet will be like 10 years from now, 2018.

Get free e-books from Project Gutenburg. Public Domain books
http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

There are 20,000 free books in the Project Gutenberg Online Book Catalog.

Project Gutenberg periodically generates CD and DVD image files (ISO files) containing books from the collection. When downloaded, they can be used to make a CD or DVD using a CD or DVD writer. Please copy and give away these CDs and DVDs! Keep one for yourself, and give one to a friend … or a library … or a school.
http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:The_CD_and_DVD_Project

The August 2003 CD contains 600 of our best Ebooks. The December 2003 DVD contains 9400 of our first 10,000 books. The July 2006 DVD contains over 17,000 books from our first 19,000 titles. All of the books found on the CD can also be found on both DVDs and most of the files on the December 2003 DVD can be found on the July 2006 DVD. There are very few images on the discs, and no audio books.

For the most part, the original copyright on the materials distributed by Project Gutenberg has expired. This means that most of the books on the discs are at least 80+ years old, and you will almost certainly NOT find information about computers, video games, or other topics that you may be studying in school (unless perhaps you are an English major studying at a liberal arts college). The materials on a Project Gutenberg disc will NOT substitute for the textbooks that you are required to purchase. (Even if you are an English major, your professor will likely assign a particular edition of the books you will read.) There is NO information on Microsoft Windows, Linux, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, or Sony DreamCast. You will NOT find any information on defeating copy protection or how you can obtain "warez." If you are looking for any of these things, please do NOT download or request copies of the Project Gutenberg discs. It would be a waste of our limited time and money.

Try Powell's books: http://www.powells.com/
Also, offline, see if you have any thrift stores or used bookstores around your area... I get great book bargains at Goodwill and Half-Priced Bookstores.
