I hear u!! LOL just kidding, but I know what you mean! :) It's the worse kind of simplicity that gets analyzed as stupidity. I think it's just quicker than typing two more letters . . .quicker or lazier, I can't quite figure it out either :)

to people that think it's modern . . . hahahaha that's funny, it's been going on since computers first came out! Another thing is: to do it in a text of a small cell phone is one thing, but to have that represent you in everyday worldly scenarios that does not include texting a friend is just bad people skills.

Frankly I don't know what the problem is but if anyone wants to communicate with me they will have to use English. Honestly, I will only read about one sentence of this text speak or the mixed upper and lower case letters. I am just too damned old to decode every sentence in order to help some 13 year old who doesn't know whether she likes one boy or the other.

Sorry if I sound abrupt but, then again, maybe I am.

Thank you, it is good to vent now and then.

It started off as a easy way for kids & adults to text on either messengers or mobile phones. It is a kind of craftiness really but when this sort of writing gets into essays at schools etc. it becomes a concern.

I think it started with those quaint vanity license plates people bought, to save space. Like - Gr8t 1, or Sux2BU
Now it's filtered into everyday usage.

It a form of modern shorthand. It was either made popular by SMSing (text messages) or IM (instant messaging) due to either the speed required to type (in IM) or the limited message length (in SMS). It can be annoying, but it is also a very fast way of communicating.

They're probably the same people who type "n-e" for "any". That's ridiculous...it's still three keystrokes.
