Do you think people in the Northeastern US are more rude, cold, distant, unmannerly etc?

that is a complete stereotype. People are their own people and you cannot say that people in the northeast are rude, cold, distant, or unmannerly. That is just a rumor. It isn't true. Also, in response to the comment about us northeasterners being dumb, I didn't hear about that, but whether it's true or not, you can't blame us for being extra cautious with our security, when a bomb COULD be disguised as a pack of lite brites with cartoon characters on them. Also, living near where the twin towers used to be, with the crater there now, it's a constant reminder of what a small slip of security can do, and all the lives it could cost. So being careful and checking everything IS NOT A BAD THING. IT IS A SMART THING, and making fun of it is extremely offensive and hurtful to us because of the trauma of 9/11 and what so many people had to go through.

I am from the Northeast. Before I went to the Midwest and the West for visits I had no idea that we were rude, cold, and distant. Now I know, but I can't change it. I love New England, and I know that the coldness and distance is only an exterior. Most of the people are very good-hearted.

I don't think they're more cold, rude, distant, or unmannerly, but I do think they're a little soft in the head after the Cartoon Network fiasco in Boston. They thought that Lite Brites with cartoon characters on them were bombs. How dumb and lame can you be?

Good question. I live in the south and experience some of what you are talking about, but have met enough northerners to realize that we can't lump them all together. I think we have our share of rude, cold and distant folks that were born and raised right here.

Nope!! Actually New York City was rated the most friendly in a recent survey of a few dozen cities.
