.......... as opposed to answering by saying "Get a life" or "stupid question"..................

There's no obligation to answer, is there?

Sadly, Garfield, I lack the requisite ability to tell how stupid SOME of the answers will be until after I have asked the question. I will certainly look to see if you are around when planning a question in future :)

I try ask pretty open questions on the whole. I am not looking for any particular answer, but I am looking for an "answer". I don't think the examples I give above eg Get a life et al are good examples of answering questions.

Heh - I thought I would try and clear things up politely with Garfield and guess what? He or she doesn't allow emails.

So - I looked through Garfield's profile. He has a bee in his bonnet about how pointless it is asking questions on Y!A, and quite often mocks and belittles people in the answers he gives, regularly without showing signs of properly reading the question. He ought not to let his own agenda get in the way of his answers before he criticises other people that actually enjoy answering questions positively, and like asking questions which get responses that are relevant.

I know, some people will respond either like so rudely and negative or have like 1 word answers that are like your an idiot or get a life. Obviously, if they have the time to answer someone's question like that, they have no life!

The people would not feel superior to others. Personally, they are on here too much, I am sure. And, they feel the need to make themselves feel better by telling others who stupid they are.
This site is to ask questions. I feel if there is name calling, then that should be an automatic dismissal from here.
It makes people think twice about the questions they ask.
I get mean stuff sent on my questions, and I reply to the people.
I tell them, do you not have anything better to do?
I am stupid, you are the one replying to it...
People need to quit being mean..silly, but yes, its just mean people!

In the beginning I answered everything. Now if I don't know the answer I pass. The only reason I answered you is because I just logged on.

that's my theory!! Quit b!tching about a public forum. I don't remember signing a contract that told me what I can or cannot ask! Just don't answer!! Is 2 points really worth being an a&&hole for?!?

Well gee, what a good point. Unfortunately there's a lot of people here more concerned with points than with the quality of their answers.

Right....but sometimes you cant resist the real bad ones...I have to admit I'm guilty of the "get a life" answers from time to time...
Sorry.....

I never thought about it that way. But, I prefer the latter of the two options.

I AGREE WITH YOU AND I DO SKIP IT, USUALLY NOT BECAUSE I MIGHT THINK ITS DUMB OR SOMETHING BECAUSE A QUESTION MIGHT SEEM OFF TO ME BUT NOT TO YOU AND I THINK THAT IS RUDE TO SAY THAT TO SOMEONE, BUT BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWER. EITHER GIVE IT ANSWER IT DESERVES OR MOVE ON TO THE NEXT QUESTION.

You must have gone to University or something. You're far smarter than the average bear here.

I hear you. I'm with you.
