Yes he got fired...for one of the stupidest reasons I've ever heard! I honestly think the Chargers are taking a step backwards in this move. Shottenheimer had success in almost every place he has been and to show him such disrespect is appalling. To think the Chargers can go out and get a coach of Marty's calibre is ridiculous. He got the most out of his players and to fire him for not getting along with the front office is foolish. The ones the owner should be firing are the higher ups in the organization. With the record they had this year, we will see very soon next year if the Chargers made a big mistake. SD Super Bowl? I highly doubt it......

Yes, he is out as head coach of the Chargers and you can bet the rest of the AFC West is breathing a sigh of relief at that news. This has to be one of the dumbest moves I have ever seen. Only about four coaches in league history have won more games than Marty. His playoff record aside, he is one of the greatest coaches in league history. He can't catch the ball, run with the ball, score touch downs or, in the case of this years playoff game, avoid costly penalties. Those things are up to his players.

I suspect the Chargers will have a tough time finding an experienced coach willing to put up with such an arrogant GM like Smith. They will eventually end up signing a really young head coach or someone from the college ranks who will struggle to fill Marty's shoes. They will struggle for the next three to five years because of this move. Meanwhile, Marty will be laughing all the way to the bank with his three million dollar paycheck.

Firing him was a mistake. Marty gets a bad rap about the playoffs. It's not his fault when dudes fumble 1.)going into the end zone and 2.)returning an INT.
