lol. a sandwich? that made me giggle... ok so here's what i think:

You don't have to buy something to make the day memorable. In fact I've found just the opposite. I remember things people have done for me much easier than things they have bought for me. Make him homemade cupcakes, or design a card just for him. write him a sappy letter (they like this more than they admit). recreate your first date or paint him a picture of you two. whatever you do best, do that especially for him. whatever you choose, it should be something you are going to enjoy doing, this day is not meant to be a "labor of love" it's meant to be a day for expression. And ultimately, if you don't feel ike expressing, then don't! Say thank you when he gives you his gift and move on to the next part of the day.

Say "Thankyou, it's exactly what I wanted" and then give him a big passionate kiss. You don't have to go further. In fact, boys like when you play a little hard to get. They also like it when they bring you things and you show a lot of enthusiasm. They don't necessarily expect a gift in return; the light in your eyes will work just fine.

FYI: don't tell a man you don't want anything unless you really really don't want anything. That's a terrible game to play and it's confusing. Plus, you know as well as I do that you'd be bummed if he didn't get anything for you, even though he was doing what you told him to do. In his mind, doing what you say you want is a sign of love.

lol.. it's ok. he understands.. and the guy is "supposed" to get the girls something no matter what, and the girl can kinda get away w/ a card or something sweet... like a book of coupons u made out of paper and say 'one free hug', or '2 kisses', etc etc!

u can also get some cute valentine's boxers for like $5 at kmart or something..or get a picture of u two and put in a frame.

good luck~

i imagine you ought to placed on the bright red gown with purple polka dots because it really is Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day colorations are red and purple. i imagine that gown is proper! the bright purple gown with yellow eco-friendly red brown and orange dots isn't very Valentine's Day. wish that enables.

well depending on how broke you are can you afford like 5 or 6 dollars? I would make him chocolate covered strawberries ( buy strawberry's and the hard chocolate you can melt and dip them and put on a nice plate or a decorated plate.

"i refuse to make him a sandwich"? what is that all about?

let him give you a gift... you can make little coupons for things like like a back rub, and one for home-cooked dinner and a movie or something?

it's thoughtful and free!
