Pacific Grove is right next to Monterey. You can go to the wharf, the beach, the city of Carmel and The 18 Mile Drive. Cannery Row in Pacific Grove has a ton of shops and there's always all the Missions and the Navy base. Check it out you'll have fun. It's beautiful country and the people are very nice.

The aquarium is great. You could also go the to PG natural history museum. The butterflies might be out (they migrate and over winter here). Also there is an Indian restaurant on the 2nd floor above a book store in downtown Monterrey that I like to eat at when I'm in town...

The beach, the aquarium, walking around Carmel for shopping. The place is very dog friendly.
Overall, it's pretty quiet over there. A little TOO quiet for me personally.

don't forget wine tasting. this a nice little wine area. also, you can do small road trips to the central coast like SLO and Santa Barbara. You are also maybe an hour and a half or so from SF area.

i lived in pg, nothing but golf, and downtown monterey. there's an aquarium, and you can visit carmel and go shopping. great place to live if you lke outdoor activities, cause theres diving and big sur is close by.

Go to Montery and see the aquarium... it isn't much but at least you can say you have been.
