Every single medication and procedure can potentially be dangerous and have negative side effects! But the odds are so unlikely that the benefits of the meds greatly outweighs the risks! I was induced with all 3 pregnancies. Pitocin wasn't too terribly bad until they broke my water. Then it was 0-60 in less than that! lol Good luck and plan on the epidural!

When my water broke, I had no contractions and I was only dilated to almost 3cm so I was induced with pitocin. I was really stubborn about not wanting an epidural so I didn't have one. The contractions were insanely intense and every time the nurse would up the pitocin dosage, I thought that if I wasn't having a contraction at the moment, I would have gnawed her arms off so she couldn't give me more.
This was my first baby, so I don't know what normal un-induced contractions feel like, but I heard that pitocin makes them a lot more intense. Get the epidural if you need it. I didn't want it because my body doesn't react well to narcotics. Also, my mom got the epidural when she had me and they made her contractions slow down to the point where she had to have a c-section.
anyway, good luck and congratulations!

I was induced with pitocin... it did not cause me any problems at all. Ofcourse I hated being induced though... it was a long and very slow process for me. Then the contractions were worse then if I had gone into labor on my own. I hated it. I thought it was more painful then natural labor. I would try walking as much as possible and having sex as much as possible.. lol ofcourse everyone is different and you might actually have a good inducement.. lol don't know if thats a word.... goodluck

I was induced three times with pitocin. All three deliveries I was dilated 2-3cm before being induced. The labors lasted between 7-12 hours, and I had epidurals all three times. I had no problems from the pitocin, and I delivered three beautiful babies (all vaginally). Don't worry - everything will be fine!

I carried my son for 42 weeks before they decided to induce me. I showed up at the hospital at 8pm and was hooked up to all kind of monitors then once they put the iv in they started my pictocin. It wasnt long at all before contractions started and got a little painful. They gave me something for the pain, I think it was probably Demerol, until I reached 4cm then I got my epidural. But I only got to 5cm and stopped dialating so after laboring for 24 hours, they decided to do a c-section. The 21st of february is actually his birthday. He will be four. Good luck and congrats on the little one.

i was induced with it and everybody was trying to scare me by saying that your contractions are very strong. but in all reality i liked it. the contractions were stronger than normal labor but the funny part to me was that the nurse was actually able to control that. she was able to knock down the pictocin making the contractions weaker! with anykind of medicine though there are always side effects and dangers. i had to have an epidural twice with that induction and it cause my blood pressure to drop constantly. in the long run everything came out fine. baby was healthy as can be and so was i...good luck!!!

i was induced by pitocin with my 2nd pregnancy after my water broke and contractions didnt follow. they had to keep coming in every so often to up the dosage because my contractions werent strong enough. eventually, 13 hours later i started having strong enough contractions to start pushing. my son dropped extremely fast! i went from a 7 to a 10 in a matter of 30 minutes. he had to go to the ncu for about 6 hours because he wasnt responding as well as they would have liked him to. he would not react to sound, and when they would lift his little arms they would flop to his side. they said it was because his blood sugar was off but i to this day think it had something to do with the induction. by the way, he is perfectly healthy now!

I was induced at 38 weeks as my membranes ruptured 2 days prior. For me it was great, at least I knew I was having the baby that day. The labour is more intensified and extremely painful but you forget all that pain when you hold that bundle of joy. My labour still went on for 13.5hrs after being induced. Good Luck, hopefully it comes naturally for you.

In my first pregnancy my water broke on it's own at 37 weeks and I was not having any contractions. They put me on Pitocin a few hours after my water broke and after being on it for 18 hours I only dilated 3cms. Since it had been 22 hours since my water broke, I went in for a cesarean. Therefore in my experience it did absolutely nothing, but every woman's body is different and mine just does not want to have vaginal deliveries.
