You are wrong. The purpose is to give you a platform where you can seek or express your views. Some stupid visitors do stupid things but they don't last longer.

Officially: A website to ask and answer questions.
In reality: A website used for chatting, insults*, joking, stir-up-trouble Q & As, stupid "am I pregnant" Qs, making friends (360), learn the odd fact, and the odd proper Q.
If you don't like a bit of fun, then you're welcome to go. Just because sometimes people post stupid questions doesn't mean they themselves are stupid.
*mainly in the Religion & Spirituality / Politics sections

I've gotten lots of great information here. It's nice to know we can get honest responses from people with similar experiences.
Simply researching something on the web often reveals only sponsored information - aka influence by advertisers and not the truth.
There's also a nice immediacy to this. The second you ask a question, you get an answer.

I like it. If you don't, leave.
The point of this website is for people to get help finding information. Sites like this(where you ask questions) exist, but usually charge a small fee. This site is completely free, and you can get your answers instantly.
Haven't you ever wanted to ask someone a question, but though people would think you were weird or silly? Haven't you ever needed help with something, but didn't want to bother researching it? Well that is what Y!A is for. I use it to get opinions(e.g. Which is better, the iPod or the nano?) and get information (e.g. What is foundation for?)

Yahoo has done a fantastic job with this site to make it really addictive. Basically they wanted to make a community-based version of 'Ask Yahoo', and they've based it on a rewards system of points, stars ratings and levels.
Incredibly silly, maybe, but anyone who can design a site like this can be raking in the $$$, baby.

It's questions like this that make it so. The purpose is self explanatory. Put some thought into your questions and it won't be so stupid.

I think it was meant to be a nice place for people to share ideas. Now I'm seeing more and more cruelty, rudeness, racism, etc. and I think maybe it's time for me to leave it alone. I can watch the news to become depressed - who needs yahoo answers?

To answer questions, meet people, ask questions, and sometimes argue when opinions differ.
