No I do not think they should make cigarettes illegal. What about Alcohol it kills plus drunk drivers kill. Just the everyday air we breath in some cities is so bad what do you think it does to your lungs? What would happen to all the people that is employed by the tobacco companies. There are not enough jobs to support all of them. So now instead of the government getting all the taxes off of tobacco it is costing the government because the govt will be supporting all these people!!!!!

Actually, tobacco products cause MORE HARM than ALL "illegal" drugs combined and multiplied many times over.
And, fortunately, laws are being passed to make smoking illegal in public places so that non-smokers can breathe clean air.

Because this is a corporate America. Members of Congress are paid TONS of money to keep tobacco companies in business. Along with all the lobbyists at Capitol Hill. This also goes for fast food companies and oil companies. Any major corporation that has a potential of being harmed by the government are paying loads of money to keep that from happening.

I think it is not illegal because if you smoke and drive you most likely wont kill someone because of it. It harms the smoker and can harm others with second hand smoke but it shouldn't be illegal. Dont get me wrong I dont want to smell it in restaurants when I'm eating but if people are dumb enough to do it it is their choice.

NO I don't think it should be illegal. I don't want to have to breath it in at a restaurant because I don't smoke. I know that it is bad for my health. I don't think that I should have the right to oppress another persons freedom. Even if it is harmful to them. They are adults after all personal responsibility. If you want to be stupid you had better be tough. That also means that I don't want to pay their doctor bills and Hospital stays for the cancer treatment and emphysema they gave to themselves. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY should go a long way.

no they should not ban smoking because it is an adults choice they should however regulate what is put in cigarettes. Want to see your taxes sky rocket? then yes ban cigarettes. the industry employes about 3 million americans from farmers to truckers to factory workers to the sellers. Go ahead ban smoking everywhere. Make it illegal. Or better yet lets have a proabition this way we can strain our legal system with determined smokers as we did during the booze prohabition.

It will never happen. If cigarettes were outlawed, the government would miss out on Billion$ in tax revenue. It is the perfect tax for poor people.

I think you should have to scan your ID to get cigarettes and I think you should be able to call the state and turn off your authorization to buy them when you decide to quit since that's the hard part, it only takes one to set off an ex-smoker, and they're everywhere, it SHOULD be illegal to hand them out in bars for free.

No but they should keep all smoking out of public area's so I don't have to breath that crap in all the time, including bars. As far as I'm concerned i could care less about other peoples health if they don't even care for themself so let them smoke.
